Smart industrial lighting for STEF

STEF, a leading player in the European food transport and logistics sector, is committed to its corporate social responsibility and has a sustainability strategy to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030. In 2023, the company took a significant step in its mission to operate sustainably by upgrading the lighting infrastructure at its 14,500m² transport and logistics platform in Bodegraven to more energy-efficient LED lighting.
 

A sustainable industrial lighting solution

As well as saving energy and reducing carbon emissions, the new lighting was expected to improve working conditions for employees. Our team visited the site to analyse the conditions and design a lighting scheme that would meet all the requirements.

The INDU LINE, an efficient linear LED lighting solution designed to provide a quality light output was selected for the project. Due to varying ceiling heights, the lighting plan had to take this specificity into account. A higher ceiling requires a different configuration to maintain the same quality of light. By adapting the lighting in each room, the lighting design optimises the energy savings.
 

Schréder ITERRA, a control system for smart industrial lighting

All of the luminaires are connected to the Schréder ITERRA control system for an user-friendly lighting system. Staff at STEF can easily adjust the lighting at any time using an intuitive app. 

This wireless control system works with motion detections sensors to adjust the lighting on the presence of employees, preventing any unnecessary energy consumption. Lighting on the site has never been more efficient or better adapted to the needs of the employees. Lars de Rijk, Technical Specialist at STEF has been using the app for several months and confirms how easy it is to use.
 

For example, we tested the effect of increasing the number of 'active' minutes in certain rooms. It's very easy to change. It's really great.

 
Wecycle for the responsible disposal of old luminaires

As part of our commitment to sustainability and the environment, we have ensured that all of the old lamps and fixtures have been disposed of responsibly. We did this in collaboration with Wecycle, an organisation specialising in recycling lighting products. By dealing responsibly with the old lamps, the project helps to reduce waste and conserve valuable raw materials.

We are proud to have helped STEF reduce their energy bills and carbon emissions while improving the workspace for employees.
